Synergy
I’ve heard allot of great things about Synergy but today was the first time I had the need to use it.
My mother has a Windows laptop (soon to be changed to Ubuntu 7.04) which I use when I attend LAN Parties. It has a few FPS games I wanted to play during these relaxed vacations.
Since I had a monitor laying around I only needed to use my keyboard and mouse. I hooked up the monitor to the laptop and downloaded Synergy on my Ubuntu machine (which is Synergy’s server) and on the Windows laptop.
A simple sudo apt-get install synergy is enough on Debian-based distributions.
After installing it on the Windows and Ubuntu machine I had to configure the server. I found some good and illustrative configuration files on the Internet and made my own.
x15 is the Windows machine and TT2k4 is the Ubuntu (server) machine.
Now the the configuration file is done we need to fire up the daemon on the server:
synergy -c /etc/synergy.conf
We now have a configuration file and the daemon running. Point the Windows machine to the server’s IP address and voilá!
